What We Are Reading Repeatedly

I want to know what age children finally are when they stop wanting to read the same book over and over and over again.  Even when it is a really good book I get tired of the same book long before Froggy does.

This week Froggy has asked for the same two book every single night at bedtime without fail.  The first was Magic Schoolbus Butterfly and the Bog Beast. I got it from the library as part of our butterfly theme but it is really more about the predator/prey relationship than it truly is about butterflies.  Also it is one of the newer books based off the TV show.  It is not written in the original style and not nearly as fun to read or as informative.  And yet Froggy loved and could not get enough of it.

The second book is Ghost Wings by Barbara Joosee.  This is a sweet, sad book in which a Grandmother prepares her granddaughter for her ultimate departure.  The grandmother dies, granddaughter grieves and heals and remembers.  It is very well written but very sad.  Froggy is picking books on her own so I did not review this book before it came and just was not in the mood.  This is our first book by Ms. Joosee and I look forward to reading more of her works.

This week I was extremely grateful for our lunchtime book which is Jungle Book
currently since it was the only opportunity I had to read new stuff with Froggy each day.

  1. Anna has her "repeat" favorites, but not for joint readings, just for her own reading. Still, certain books are too much for me to read even once, especially if she wants to ask questions on every page. Last week I felt about The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tommy DePaola the same way - so very sad I almost couldn't bear reading it. We also read our fair share of MSB books here. Thanks for joining WMCIR!

  2. My 5-year-old is like that. He gets obsessed with book or a series (right now it's Bunny Days and Skippyjon Jones) and has to read them over and over again and have me read them to him.
